Mary Stutts is the Chief Diversity, Inclusion & Health Equity Officer for Stanford Health Care, where she focuses on creating an inclusive culture for employees that carries over to patients, caregivers and local communities.

Stutts has provided global leadership in biotechnology, healthcare and media industries including Genentech, Bayer, Bristol Myers Squibb, UnitedHealth Group, Kaiser Permanente and Comcast NBCUniversal.

Stutts’ book, The Missing Mentor, Women Advising Women on Power, Progress & Priorities, provides insight and guidance on career advancement with or without a mentor. Her book, career development workshops on the dynamics of women and men in leadership, and work with emerging professional women from war torn countries led to her receiving the Business Council for Peace 2019 Lifetime Impact Award for excelling at advancing the careers of women.

Stutts holds a Master’s degree in Health Administration from the University of Southern California and is also a graduate of the Executive Program on Strategy and Organization at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Playing to your Strengths

Catherine Arnold, former managing director at Credit Suisse shares a story of her early days as a Wall Street analyst. She had vast experience and knowledge in the pharmaceutical industry and used it as an alternative path into the financial sector. It was not an uncommon path and many entering the sector covered their industry while learning to be an analyst. Although Catherine had never been an analyst before, she learned early on to never say no to a new opportunity. While she was eventually successful, it was a difficult route.

Say That! – The Power of Words To Create or Destroy

I spend a great deal of my time advising people what to say as well as when and how to say it. Although I have been doing it for many years, every day I become more and more convinced that our words are our most under-utilized tool in changing our circumstances and controlling our destinies.
